How to Build a Water Well Bucket

Today we will find out about another easy way to get the water from your well and into your awaiting bucket. It's called a well bucket and the best part of this design is that it can be used on any well and at any depth, so depending on the size of your well and how much room you have in it, this may be another easy and inexpensive way of achieving our goal. It's pretty simple and just involves constructing a bucket tied to a rope and either using your own muscle power or a mechanical device to lower and raise your bucket.

The following video will show you how to construct a well bucket, or a "Bailer Bucket", as they call it.

This video shows a "bailer bucket" being used. Notice how the bucket was kept inside of a plastic bag when not being used, that's a good tip.

Hydromission.com offers some free plans for this project. The first one will show you how to make a simple bailer bucket, but make sure you watch the first video because it is not to detailed. That plan can be found here. The second plan found here will show you how to construct a bucket hauler from a bike. You can see it in the picture below.

Before making any buckets make sure you check the inside of your well to see what kind of room you would have to work with. In fact knowing the measurements of your well will be quite helpful in planning your emergency water system.

So dig around in the garage and see what you already have and pick up what you don't. This would be the quickest and easiest way to get water from your well in any kind of power outage or emergency situation. As the man said, "People have been using this method for thousands of years." I guess everything old becomes new again.

Have fun and remember "Knowledge is Power!"
