The following video will show you how to construct a well bucket, or a "Bailer Bucket", as they call it.
This video shows a "bailer bucket" being used. Notice how the bucket was kept inside of a plastic bag when not being used, that's a good tip.
Hydromission.com offers some free plans for this project. The first one will show you how to make a simple bailer bucket, but make sure you watch the first video because it is not to detailed. That plan can be found here. The second plan found here will show you how to construct a bucket hauler from a bike. You can see it in the picture below.
Before making any buckets make sure you check the inside of your well to see what kind of room you would have to work with. In fact knowing the measurements of your well will be quite helpful in planning your emergency water system.
So dig around in the garage and see what you already have and pick up what you don't. This would be the quickest and easiest way to get water from your well in any kind of power outage or emergency situation. As the man said, "People have been using this method for thousands of years." I guess everything old becomes new again.
